What is a Challenger home?

Challenger homes are eco-smart single-family dwellings, tailored to fit your lifestyle, and precision-built to order. Conceived by leading architects as future-proof alternatives to the predominantly over-sized homes on the market today, Challenger homes are efficient, reflect best practices of sustainable design, and offer comfort, convenience, and unexcelled quality.

How “sustainable” is a Challenger home?

We have designed Challenger homes with much thought to creating minimal ecological footprints, and to be as “livable” and healthy as possible for inhabitants, the neighbouring community, and the planet. We encourage appropriate site placement (and can help provide useful counsel in this regard) to optimize both energy savings and energy capture, where feasible. How “green” a particular home ends up being depends on a variety of factors such as lifestyle choices of the homeowners and the sustainability-related features chosen (e.g. double-wall construction with high insulation levels, solar energy collection, etc.).

What energy-efficiency certifications are available?

To help measure our sustainability goals, Conquest certifies all Challenger homes using the Energy Star program to measure energy consumption (each Challenger home built receives an Energy Star label). As well, the LEED for Homes (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system for high-performance green homes is available to customers who request this additional certification (some additional fees apply).

What does a Challenger home cost?

That depends on the size of home, which home design is selected, where the home is being delivered to, and what optional features are desired. Our expert representatives are good at helping to match a suitable home design to fit your particular tastes, needs, and budgets. Knowing about the intended home location, site requirements, and your lifestyle preferences helps our reps provide you with accurate price estimates.

For rough estimation purposes, most Challenger homes start at $200 CAD per square foot, and can range upwards of $300 CAD per square foot plus permits, land, foundation, and design fees as applicable.

What about custom design services?

The Challenger line of homes consists of a limited assortment of well-designed, sensibly-sized house structures selected to suit a diverse range of homeowners. If deviation from these well-considered Challenger designs is deemed necessary (e.g. to fit your particular needs or to incorporate exceptional lifestyle requirements), Conquest collaborates directly with the designing architect on your behalf. If significant design modifications or deviations are required, additional professional fees are typically incurred. (Custom design services or fees for adjustments to existing designs are $175 per hour).

If none of the existing Challenger-brand home designs fit your specific site, taste, or lifestyle needs, Conquest will gladly put you in direct contact with one of our contributing architects in order to undertake a custom home design (Conquest has design-built and delivered hundreds of custom homes [up to 3000 square feet in size] to satisfied homeowners over the past five decades).

How can I obtain financing for a Challenger systems-built home?

Our expert representatives are happy to help make the financing of your new Challenger home easy, and have extensive experience working with accredited partners and leading financial institutions. Systems-built homes are generally financed with a construction loan similar to loans for standard site-built construction. You may already have a good working relationship with a mortgage lender that offers competitive new home construction loans. If not, we recommend that you contact Invis directly (Invis is Canada’s largest mortgage broker); they are familiar with the process and progress payments of systems-built construction, and are adept at seeking out the best deals in the marketplace.

What’s included with a Challenger home?

Most home packages include finished floors (e.g. organically-grown bamboo or eco-friendly carpeting), doors, walls and ceilings (finished with natural paints), energy-saving windows (and skylights), low-maintenance exterior cladding, exterior stairs/access ramps, an efficient heating/cooling system, built-in lighting, major appliances (energy-efficient refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, microwave, washing machine, dryer), bespoke built-ins (e.g. storage closets, Murphy-style beds, etc.), kitchen & bathroom cabinets and countertops, handrails, matched handles and hardware, sinks, tubs, and toilets.

Because each Challenger home is tailored to fit your specific needs and tastes, no two Challenger homes are exactly the same.

What steps are involved in getting a Challenger home built?

Just as each Challenger home is tailored to meet the wants and needs of the individual home-buyer, the specific steps to acquiring a Challenger home also vary somewhat (depending on your specific situation, the intended home location, etc.). Our expert representatives will guide you through the detailed steps of the process that would apply to you. While there are no cookie-cutter solutions, we’ve designed a process to ensure a simple, comfortable, and predictable experience for you—an experience in which we act as partners throughout the entire building process.

1. Financing

(If you have not already arranged your own financing, we can put you in touch with a knowledgeable representative at Invis Mortgage Brokers).

2. Land

You may already own a parcel of land, or you’re eyeing a pretty lot, but either way, the property location is necessary to determine which Challenger design is most suited to your site, how the home will be delivered and set up, and how this particular parcel of land will affect your LEED certification. Conquest will conduct a feasibility analysis to evaluate potential costs, planning, and construction requirements based on your unique site. (If you do not have a property secured, we can put you in touch with a knowledgeable representative at RE/MAX Professionals).

3. Design

Choose from a range of existing Challenger home designs, or work with one of our world-class contributing architects to develop one from scratch—unique to your site, your needs, and your own inspiration.

4. Engineering/Permitting

At this stage the foundation is engineered, and applications are submitted for building permits.

5. Fabrication

The Challenger home module(s) are precision-built in our state-of-the-art, climate-controlled facility.

6. Foundation/Site-work

Excavation begins and the home foundation is prepared on site.

7. Delivery/Install

The Challenger home module(s) are delivered to the site and attached to the foundation.

8. Support/Warranty

Each Challenger home is backed by a 15-year warranty on the building structure, combined with leading manufacturer’s warranties on installed products such as flooring and windows.

Will Conquest work with other architects?

Absolutely. As the Challenger line of homes has taken shape over the past few years we have worked intensely with an initial group of leading architects: Herbert Enns of OS1 Architecture; Paul Stankey, Marc Asmus, and Bryan Meyer of HIVE Modular LLC; Ed Calnitsky of Calnitsky Associates Architects; and Ross Chapin of Ross Chapin Architects. We envision the Challenger selection of innovative, sustainable, sensibly-sized, and highly livable homes to keep expanding, and to that end we welcome collaborations with other visionary design professionals.
